چکیده

The satissability (SAT) problem is a core problem in mathematical logic and computing theory. In practice, SAT is fundamental in solving many problems in automated reasoning, computer-aided design, computer-aided manufacturing, machine vision, database, robotics, integrated circuit design, computer architecture design, and computer network design. Traditional methods treat SAT as a discrete, constrained decision problem. In recent years, many optimization methods, parallel algorithms, and practical techniques have been developed for solving SAT. In this survey, we present a general framework (an algorithm space) that integrates existing SAT algorithms into a uniied perspective. We describe sequential and parallel SAT algorithms including variable splitting, resolution, local search, global optimization , mathematical programming, and practical SAT algorithms. We give performance evaluation of some existing SAT algorithms. Finally, we provide a set of practical applications of the satissability problems.

On 2-SAT and Renamable Horn

We introduce new linear time algorithms for satisfiability of binary propositional theories (2-SAT), and for recognition and satisfiability of renamable Horn theories. The algorithms are based on unit resolution, and are thus likely easier to integrate within general SAT solvers than other graph-based algorithms.

Improvements to Hybrid Incremental SAT Algorithms

Boolean Satisfiability (SAT) solvers have been successfully applied to a wide range of practical applications, including hardware model checking, software model finding, equivalence checking, and planning, among many others. SAT solvers are also the building block of more sophisticated decision procedures, including Satisfiability Modulo Theory (SMT) solvers. The large number of applications of...

Worst-Case Upper Bounds

There are many algorithms for testing satisfiability — how to evaluate and compare them? It is common (but still disputable) to identify the efficiency of an algorithm with its worst-case complexity. From this point of view, asymptotic upper bounds on the worst-case running time and space is a criterion for evaluation and comparison of algorithms. In this chapter we survey ideas and techniques ...

The Impact of Branching Heuristics in Propositional Satisfiability Algorithms

This paper studies the practical impact of the branching heuristics used in Propositional Satisfiability (SAT) algorithms, when applied to solving real-world instances of SAT. In addition, different SAT algorithms are experimentally evaluated. The main conclusion of this study is that even though branching heuristics are crucial for solving SAT, other aspects of the organization of SAT algorith...

Diagnosis of Discrete-Event Systems Using Satisfiability Algorithms

The diagnosis of a discrete-event system is the problem of computing possible behaviors of the system given observations of the actual behavior, and testing whether the behaviors are normal or faulty. We show how the diagnosis problems can be translated into the propositional satisfiability problem (SAT) and solved by algorithms for SAT. Our experiments demonstrate that current SAT algorithms c...
